You can try Dream Nailing him to regain Soul, but its super risky with this boss. So your options for healing and spellcasting are rather limited in this fight. Plus, the Failed Champion is one of the few bosses that doesn't replenish Soul when you hit them with Nail. The cracks on this particular breakable wall are especially pronounced, so it should be easy to spot.
